Earth Day 2008 Programs

Everyday is Earth Day at Chimney Rock Park. However, to commemorate Earth Day, April 22, 2008, we are celebrating throughout the month of April. Pick a date that works best for your school and let us do the rest.

Programs are offered weekdays (except April 14) throughout the month of April to fit your scheduling needs.

2008 Earth Day Program* topics include:

Recycle-O-Rama

Learn why we should recycle, what you can recycle, where it goes after you drop it off, and what products are made from your recycled materials. Students will also be able to join in a game called the Recycling Relay.

Wondrous Wildlife

From birds to bears, wildlife is everywhere. Participants will learn which types of animals share our home and discuss their important roles in the ecosystem. Join a Park specialist for an up-close look at some of our natural neighbors.

The Need for Trees

Everyone forgets about the trees! This program shows why trees are important and how they help feed life on Earth. Students will create a craft that helps them identify common trees of the Southern Appalachians.

Skins and Skulls

Why do some mammals have thicker fur than others? What are the benefits of the color of their fur? Why are some mammals’ skulls shaped differently from others? Your class will learn to identify different animals of the area by their bones and fur tones.

*All programs will be held rain or shine.

Cost Per Student:

$8 per student includes admission to the Park for the day and participation in all four programs listed above.

One adult chaperone for every 10 students is required and will receive complimentary admission; any additional adults will receive our group rate of $11.50.

Please Note: More than one school may attend on certain days according to scheduling needs.
