John Fowler has been sharing his stories and music with kids of all ages at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park for years.
He was born and raised in upstate South Carolina with strong ties to the western North Carolina Mountains. John learned how to play the guitar at the early age of eight by playing with family members and friends. By his mid-twenties he had collected stories and tunes to go with them that he began to share with others.
In 1991 John was accepted for placement on the South Carolina Arts Commission Roster, the Mountain Arts Program and Children Circuit in North Carolina as well many other state and community rosters throughout the southeast. In his twenty years of performing, John has visited theaters, festivals, schools and music camps throughout the region.
Today John plays the banjo in the old-time music group, the Carolina TuneCroppers, and hosts an old-time country music show on the NC public radio station WNCW 88.7 on Sunday afternoons. His programs are a favorite of students and teachers alike.
In Their Words
Everything seems to run like clockwork. The park was clean and beautiful. The trails were kept extremely nice and very safe. There was great staffing throughout the Park.
