Chimney Rock Park Activites
Group activities at Chimney Rock Park

Welcome to the Park
Learn about the geology, animal life, and family history of the Park with an informative complimentary introduction from our Education team.

Hiking
The Park is a great spot for folks of all ages and all athletic abilities. Some may want to hike up the mountain on our Skyline-Cliff Trail Loop to splash in the top of our 404-ft. waterfall. Others may want to stay on our moderate Hickory Nut Falls trail that leads to the bottom of Hickory Nut Falls. And in between is our 26-story elevator that will transport anyone up and down the mountain, so everyone can enjoy the breathtaking views from the Chimney level! The Great Woodland Adventure trail is great for families, and the Four Seasons trail connects all five trails together.

Delve Into Nature
A team of Trail Rangers can answer questions about the natural history, geology, flora and fauna of the Park.

  • Groups may book a guided hike with a Trail Ranger. One guide can take up to 25 people. The amount of time depends on which trail you choose. Cost is $50 per guide.
  • Slide shows are available that highlight the wonderful natural aspects of our Park.
  • Gardens and Trails Programs – Nature, wildflower, old growth forest, and “Off the Beaten Path” workshops and hikes guided by our specialists. Cost: workshop fees apply.

Kid’s Activities
Join Grady the Groundhog and his friends for a fun-filled day at the Park. Options include: Petting Zoo, Storytelling, Arts and Crafts, Face Painting, Puppet and Magic Shows, Balloon Art, and Nature Programs with birds, turtles, reptiles, groundhogs, and other wildlife. Additional fees apply.

Scavenger Hunt
Divide your group into teams to hunt through the Park to find answers about the history, geology, and trails. Specific questions can be designed to lead your group through certain areas of the Park most suitable for your outing. Cost: $25 per group. Prizes are available for an additional fee.

Climbing Experience
Try our climbing tower overlooking the cliffs of Hickory Nut Gorge. Ideal for folks of all ages. Develop new skills, learn to cooperate, and build self-confidence. Cost: $4 per climb (minimum charge of $80; advance registration is required). One free climb if you reach the top!

Group Rock Climbing
Fox Mountain Guides offers a complete guiding service for all groups, family trips, reunions, birthday parties, school trips, church group excursions and scout climbing and rappelling trips as part of the Climbing Merit Badge, or as part of an extended trip anywhere in North Carolina. Our discounted group rates start at a minimum booking of seven clients, and we offer a range of possibilities including full and half day bookings.

Games
We offer complimentary game equipment for all groups. This includes volleyball and net, softball bases and horseshoes. If your group would love the sweet revenge of a dunking booth, or other carnival games, we can provide those for an additional fee.

Music
DJs can be booked for $500 for 4 hours and can be setup at your tent. Our featured hammered dulcimer player, John Mason, is friendly, lighthearted and takes requests. Cost: $200 for three hours.

Itineraries
There is a lot to do and see in Hickory Nut Gorge and the surrounding area – including a guided boat tour of Lake Lure.

Souvenirs
Select some of our great souvenirs for your group: walking sticks, fanny packs, nylon six-pack coolers, water bottles, etc. Or if you can’t decide, offer your group Chimney Rock Park dollars that can be redeemed at any shop, snack bar, or at the Old Rock Café, or for an upgrade to a Park Annual Pass.
