Join a Park Naturalist to meet some of our resident Animal Ambassadors. Participants will learn what kind of wildlife inhabits the Park and their important role in the ecosystem. You might even leave with a newfound appreciation for critters you once misunderstood.

The Hickory Nut Gorge is home to iconic landmarks like Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, but did you know it’s also host to an assortment of locally-crafted foods and drinks? Enjoy an intimate evening celebrating the Gorge’s natural features and locally-made gourmet appetizers, artisanal cheese, craft beer and wine as the sun sinks behind the mountains. This nature holiday is a great excuse for people to not only get out and enjoy the great outdoors, but it is also a great opportunity to learn some fun outdoor activities. Chimney Rock will host a variety of outdoor specialists and vendors that will give you information and gear demonstrations on activities such as hiking, rock climbing, camping and much more. Chimney Rock State Park is a bird watcher’s paradise. A countless variety of native and migrant birds can be found here during this time of the year. Join a local birding expert for a two-hour bird finding expedition. You never know what species you might see, so bring your camera! This hike is considered moderate. Bask in lunar energy during this full moon yoga session with Namaste in Nature. The mountains are said to be a natural vortex of spiritual energy, which makes Chimney Rock an ideal setting for connecting your spirit with nature.

Come observe the Park under a shadow of darkness and watch as it comes alive. Join a Park naturalist as you hike along the Hickory Nut Falls trail, a moderate hike. You never know what nocturnal animals you may hear or see. You will want to bring a headlamp or flashlight, dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water.
